Levels 1 and 2 Forest School Training
If you are not sure about completing a whole level 3 qualification to be a Forest School leader, you can take advantage of our levels 1 or 2 training, which give you some skills and experience. Please note neither level 1 or level 2 qualifies a student to run a forest school.
Level 1 Training - An introduction to Forest School
Level 1 training is an introduction to forest school is aimed at individuals with little or no experience of working in the outdoors or with children, and aims to build knowledge and confidence in understanding the forest school approach.
Provisional dates - 27th-28th February

Requirements
Fire and Air will introduce the outdoor environment including basic woodland skills, and how the outside can facilitate learning.
Participants will learn how the outdoors can be used to encourage all areas of development, understand basic concepts of learning and behaviour and explore strategies for healthy development in the outdoor environment. We will also look at how we can help others and ourselves to grow emotionally and develop a deeper relationship with the natural world.
Course Duration: 2 days
Portfolio Completion will take place during the course.
This course is ideal for those people who are wanting to gain skills for working outdoors with children and young people, those who want to explore Forest Schools within their own setting or those who wish to support a trained Forest Schools practitioners.

- Be able to observe a forest school session

Level 2 Training - for assistants at Forest School
This training is aimed at those who want to regularly assist at forest schools, and may lead elements of the sessions. Students need to assist on 3 sessions of Forest School run by a qualified level 3 FS Leader and write up their observations to gain the qualification. This is a good training level to choose if you want to gain some experience at Forest School first, before embarking on the full level 3 FS Leader course.
Dates - 27-28th February (in conjunction with level 1) and 2-3rd March
Costs - £500
Requirements
- Be at least 18
- Have at least 1 years experience of working with children or young people
- Be assisting or able to assist with a forest school programme (at least 6 sessions)
Fire and Air will deliver a full week of training focusing on skills based training, including identification, woodland skills and understanding the environment. We will cover health and safety, assessing the environment and maintaining equipment. There is a focus on learning and development, through child initiated play and how forest schools and the outside environment can help promote well being and self confidence.
Course duration - 4 days
A portfolio will be handed in 3 months after the start of the course.
